The South Carolina Highway Patrol said operator Eric Albertson, 39, of Ridgeland, SC, was assisting a motorist on Frontage Road near Ridgeland at approximately 6:23 p.m.
The vehicle that struck Albertson left the scene.
Albertson was an employee of A1 Towing of Ridgeland.
