Updated: California Tow Operator Struck, Killed by Vehicle on Los Angeles Freeway

A tow operator was struck and killed Wednesday May 31, on the Golden State Freeway near Griffith Park in Los Angeles.

The operator, Presiliano Chavez, 41, of Sun Valley was hit at approximately 11:12 p.m. while responding to a call to assist a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled. As he was attempting to load the vehicle, he was struck by a passing Nissan driven by a 33-year-old Rachel Fewings of Los Angeles.

California Highway Patrol officers attempted medical aid before paramedics arrived and pronounced the operator dead at the scene.

Fewings remained at the scene.

The CHP said alcohol or drugs were not suspected in the incident.

The incident is under investigation.
