A tow operator was shot and killed by a man requesting a tow on Monday, October 7, in Riverside, Calif.

According to news reports, Jesse Martinez, 27, who worked for Liberty Towing, was dispatched to a call by the owner of a truck, 32-year-old Javier Martinez, to have it towed. As Jesse Martinez loaded the vehicle onto his flatbed, Javier Martinez, who was reported to be intoxicated, became uncooperative and argued with the tow operator.

The argument developed into a physical altercation and Javier Martinez allegedly produced a handgun and shot the operator multiple times. The suspect then fled the scene.

Witnesses called 911 and Jesse Martinez was taken Riverside Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police aided by K9 units found the suspect shortly afterward approximately one-half mile from the location and he was arrested on suspicion of murder. He is being held without bail.
