Tow Operator Struck, Killed in Sacramento, California

A tow operator was struck and killed Saturday, March 27, by a suspected drunk driver on the shoulder of I-5 in Sacramento, Calif.

The tow operator, whose name has not been released, was standing on the shoulder of the northbound lanes at Seamas Avenue, responding to a disabled car at approximately 11:40 p.m. when Larry Godbold, 46, of Sacramento, allegedly hit him and the tow truck with his minivan.

The California Highway Patrol stated that the operator was tossed into northbound lanes of the interstate and pronounced dead.

Godbold, who did not suffer injuries in the crash, was arrested on charges of DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
