Virginia Tow Operator Struck and Killed in Chain-Reaction Crash

A tow operator was killed late Monday, June 8, in a chain-reaction crash on I-495 near Route 236 in Fairfax County, Va.
According to a news report, the operator was outside of his truck with the truck’s lights flashing as he assisted a disabled motorist.
A driver in a Honda Pilot rear-ended a southbound Ford SUV, causing it to veer off the highway and hit the tow truck. The operator attempted to flee the crash and was struck by a Mercedes SUV. The operator died at the scene.
Police are investigating the incident.
Update: Virginia State Police have identified the tow operator as Derrick A. Marbury of Alexandria, Va.
