Illinois Tow Operator Dies After Being Struck at Crash Scene

A tow operator has died after he as struck by a vehicle Saturday, March 6, while cleaning up debris at a crash in Champaign, Ill.

Ross Booker, 20, worked for Tatman’s Towing of Urbana, Ill., and was a volunteer at the St. Joseph – Stanton Fire Protection District.

According to news reports, Booker was on the scene of a two-vehicle crash with no injuries near the intersection of Neil Street and Windsor Road when a vehicle driven by a 16-year-old male from Tolono, Ill., failed to change lanes and hit him.

The driver of the vehicle was issued a ticket for violating Scott’s Law, which requires drivers to slow down when approaching stationary emergency vehicles with lights activated and change lanes if able.

Booker was taken to a hospital and later succumbed to his injuries.
