Tow Operator Struck and Killed on Hawaiian Island of Oahu

A tow operator on the Hawaiian island of Oahu died Jan. 9 after being struck by a vehicle on the H-2 freeway.

According to a news report, operator Aaron Malama, 43, of Honolulu was hooking a disabled vehicle to a tow truck at approximately 1 a.m. when a woman, 45, veered out of her traffic lane, collided with the disabled vehicle and then hit Malama and another man, 49, as they stood beside the tow truck. The woman stopped after the crash.

Malama was taken to an area hospital in critical condition. He died at the hospital.

The other man was hospitalized in serious condition

Police arrested the woman on suspicion of driving under the influence of an intoxicant and two counts of first-degree negligent injury.

The crash is under investigation.
