Tow Operator Struck and Killed by Semi in Shawnee, Oklahoma
A tow operator was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer Tuesday, March 28, at approximately 9:30 p,m. on Interstate 40 in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
According to news reports, operator Kyle McCollough, 27, was assisting a motorist with a disabled vehicle when the semi hit him. He died at the scene.
His girlfriend was in the tow truck and witnessed the incident, reports said.
The tractor-trailer driver, Shengjie Li from California, left the scene and was stopped by Pottawatomie County deputies four miles away. Li was ordered out of the truck cab and arrested for leaving the scene of a fatal accident. He was taken to the Pottawatomie County Jail and later bonded out.
Highway Angels, a nonprofit group that helps tow operators and spreads awareness, is organizing a memorial procession in McCollough’s honor.
The procession will begin at 6 p.m. on West MacArthur Street in Shawnee and continue by Sooner Wrecker.
McCollough’s family is asking for donations to help fund his cremation and service. Coworkers stated that McCollough leaves behind two young girls.
