Pennsylvania Tow Operator Killed in On-the-Job Accident
A tow truck operator was killed Tuesday, October 19 in an on-the-job accident in Onteulaunee Township, Pa.
According to news reports, operator Jose A. Tirado Zamot, 46, of Reading had used a heavy-duty tow truck to tow a truck tractor to the Berman Truck Group property near Leesport.
Although there were no witnesses to the accident, authorities believe that at that location, the tractor began to roll backward once it was disconnected from the tow truck and when Zamot ran behind the tractor and in an attempt to place a block under one of the rear tires to stop its movement, he was run over by the tractor.
Zamot was found by a worker at approximately 9 p.m. Fire/rescue crews responded to the scene, and Zamot was pronounced dead by the deputy coroner.
The incident was ruled an accidental death.
