Ohio Tow Operator Struck, Killed in Ohio Turnpike Crash
An Ohio tow operator was struck and killed at approximately 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 21, as he assisted a disabled vehicle alongside the Ohio Turnpike in Henrietta Township.
Officials say the operator, identified as Eric Ackerman, 42, of Sandusky, and the driver of the disabled vehicle were loading two jet skis from a trailer onto the tow truck when both were hit by a pickup truck traveling eastbound. Both Ackerman and the driver of the disabled vehicle were killed. That driver of the disabled vehicle has not yet been identified.
The pickup that struck the men reportedly went airborne and landed on its roof. The pickup driver was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
Police are investigating the crash, and as to whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
