New Jersey Tow Operator Struck and Killed While Preparing to Tow Disabled Vehicle

A tow operator was struck and killed Tuesday, Mar. 8, while preparing to tow a disabled vehicle on Route 22 in Readinton, N.J.

According to news reports, operator Seth Newton, 26, of Readinton, was outside of his tow truck at approximately 3 p.m. Police had closed the left lane of eastbound Route 22 while he worked.

A westbound SUV veered onto the median and struck Newton, who died at the scene.

The 86-year-old driver of the SUV was taken to a local hospital where he later died. Police have not determined if the driver died from crash injuries or a medical condition.

Police are investigating the crash.
