National Move Over Day Resolution

549

Note: The following was submitted by Angela Roper Barnett, executive director of the Towing and Recovery Professionals of Connecticut, regarding a draft resolution by Senator Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut. The resolution proposes a National Slow Down Move Over Day. To view the resolution, visit towtimes.com.

Senator Blumenthal is seeking support for a National Slow Down Move Over Day from all senators, but particularly a Republican senator. When resolutions are introduced, they need many co-sponsors to sign on in support so the resolution will be adopted.

I am asking all who have a lobbyist, or relationships with your senators and representatives to ask them to contact Senator Blumenthal’s office and co-sponsor the resolution. This is something we must act on. So far this year we have lost 27 responders to distracted or impaired drivers. As responders working on the roadway, we need all the recognition and awareness we can create for laws that protect us.

Please circulate the resolution to anyone who can help support this effort by Senator Blumenthal. We appreciate his support or responders, and helping us fight this crisis.

The resolution is the result of hard work by Cindy Iodice, who lost her brother to an impaired driver while working on the roadside. Visit www.flagmansafety.com to learn more about the Iodice family, and those who support the Slow Down-Move Over campaign and work to make a difference.
