A CBS 13WJZ Baltimore news report states that a AAA worker died Tuesday, July 5, as he was assisting a motorist with a disabled vehicle on westbound Route 50 in Bowie, Md.

Maryland State Police said Anthony Okozi, 69, of Upper Marlboro was parked behind a van straddling the left lane and left shoulder with his truck’s emergency lights activated.

Okozi was wearing a reflective vest and had deployed cones as he refueled the van when a westbound Jeep Cherokee driven by Joseph Anderson, 21, swerved to avoid the AAA vehicle and struck him.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Jeep remained at the scene. It was unknown if charges would be filed. Police are investigating the incident.

Okozi was an operator for AAA Mid-Atlantic’s Upper Marlboro fleet.
