That One Friend

9

I was talking to a tow lady friend about all of my woes and how I had such a bad day as it seemed what could go wrong, did go wrong. You know the drill — tow truck breaks down, employee calls in sick, my checkbook didn’t balance — all day-to-day stuff, but it just seemed to be one thing after another.

She listened patiently as I went on and on with my frustrations — “can you believe it?” type things.

After my little rant, she turned everything around with being positive and supportive without saying something like: “So what – suck it up buttercup, that’s the ‘joys’ of running your own business.”

I thought my friend would be right there with me about having bad days and tell me about all the stuff she was dealing with, but no, she focused on what was in my control and how, while my reaction was understandable, it was my choice and attitude to how I reacted.

She put a different spin on it, and she was right. Negativity breeds negativity. She said there is so much to be joyful and thankful for, why waste energy on dwelling on the bad things?

She ended the conversation with: “I’m here for you, call anytime, and I always take life with a grain of salt, a slice of lemon and a shot of tequila.”

Laughter was a great way to end the conversation.

Everyone needs that one friend.
