5 Steps for Rotator Maintenance

1140

For the most part, maintaining rotators is the same as maintenance on conventional fixed-boom tow rucks with the exception of key features that make a rotator different.

Step 1 Rotator Turntable: The junction of the boom and the tow body is a critical maintenance area. Turret mounting bolts should be tightened per the manufacturer’s recommendations using a suitable torque wrench or torque multiplier. Not only is it important to lubricate grease fittings with the correct grease at the time intervals recommended by the manufacturer, but it’s also crucial to make sure the grease is distributed evenly around the turntable’s gear. To accomplish this, pump the recommended amount of grease into the fitting, partially rotate the boom, stop and pump grease, rotate the boom, etc., until the boom has completed its full rotation. This ensure lubricant is distributed evenly around the turntable.
