There’s a First Time for Everything

I received a text from a friend that read: “I saw my first ever female tow truck driver today. Can’t believe it’s the 21st century and that’s the first time I’ve seen a girl tow truck driver …. Lol.”

As the saying goes, there’s a first time for everything.

I think the traditional roles for certain professions, like a tow operator, have greatly expanded for role reversals to include both men and women. When you call a plumber or mechanic, most people would assume they would be dealing with a man, and then are a bit surprised if a woman is the one they would be working with.

I remember a friend of mine who owned her own tow company told me the story of how all the salesmen at a dealer she towed cars to would watch to see if she could back the vehicle she was towing into the service bay. And the surprised looks she received from customers when she arrived to do a service call.

Recently, I was telling someone about the towing museum in Chattanooga and the person asked, “There’s a museum for tow trucks? ” Well, if there are museums for bells, quilts and bobble-heads, why not a museum for tow trucks?

We are in the 21st Century, and the world is changing fast in so many ways we will all be thinking there’s a first time for everything more often.
