The Tilt-a-Whirl

One of my favorite rides at an amusement park, fair, or carnival is the Tilt-a-Whirl. Each spinning car is attached to a rotating platform that goes up and down while spinning in different directions at variable speeds. The constant, chaotic motion makes the ride so much fun. The caution, like for any amusement ride, is to not eat or drink too much before riding.

My three-year old granddaughter recently experienced her first carnival rides and after each one she said, “I wanna go again.” The surprise, thrill, fun, excitement and her ear-to-ear smile were all it took to purchase more ride tickets.

Running my business seems to be like a Tilt-a-Whirl ride. I like being busy, but it seems that lately I feel dizzy with decisions like do I replace a tow truck or repair it?  Yet, like the way my granddaughter felt after her amusement rides, each day my towing and recovery business brings some sort of excitement or surprise — which can give you headache, or a laugh. I recently received a call to tow a vehicle and its driver was naked and was smashing his car window and headlight with a baseball bat.

Tilt-a-Whirl, or a calmer Ferris Wheel, life can be both in this industry — enjoy the ride.
