Kentucky LMPD Tow Operator’s Death Ruled Accidental

A coroner’s report on the death of a Louisville (Kentucky) Metro Police Department (LMPD) civilian tow truck driver who was killed Tuesday morning, Dec.31, while attempting to tow an abandoned pick-up from the side of Interstate I-64 west in Louisville has been deemed an accident.

LMPD operator Larry Kizer, 62, died when his tow truck began rolling backward as he was attempting to hook-up to the vehicle. Kizer was trapped underneath the tow truck and died from his injuries.

A motorists stopped to render aid and called police on his cellphone and the tow truck’s radio.

The incident is under investigation to determine if mechanical defects were contributing factors.
