Indiana Tow Operator Shot, In Critical Condition After Responding to Disabled Vehicle Call

A tow operator was shot and is in critical condition after responding to a disabled vehicle call on I-70 in Hendricks County, Ind.

The Indiana State Police was called at approximately 10:15 a.m. Friday to respond to I-70 eastbound near a rest park at the 64 mile marker, where they found the victim.

According to police, a man who had mechanical issues with his vehicle pulled over onto the road shoulder. When the tow operator arrived to provide assistance, the man fired multiple shots at him. The man then went to his vehicle and got a 4-year-old child out of the vehicle, entered the tow truck and left the scene.

The operator was taken to an area hospital.

Police said the man in the tow truck was located shortly afterward and apprehended. The child was also in the truck.

The assailant and victim have not yet been identified.
