I Tell People Where to Go
Communication is the heartbeat of every relationship, driving clarity, connection and collaboration.
Nothing is possible without communication, it helps resolve conflict, boost teamwork, productivity, mutual understanding and builds trust. Just like a 9-1-1 dispatcher, outstanding communication skills and characteristics are essential for a towing dispatcher to expedite a response quickly and safely; no matter what service is called for.
Tow operators should know that when I’m dispatching, I’m not at my desk with nothing better to do than drink coffee and wait for the next phone call. For me to be a great dispatcher the following are a few skills and characteristics I need:
- The ability to multitask and adapt, remaining calm under pressure
- Excellent organizational skills
- Sharing information in a timely manner
- Phone etiquette with good manners and listening skills to ensure clarity, respect and empathy, to be professional at all times
- Knowledge of company policies and procedures along with knowing surrounding streets and landmarks of the area
- Excelling communication skills effectively exchanging and understanding information, verbally or in writing
- Have problem-solving skills
- Experience in typing and entering data into a database or computer software
Dispatching is tough and requires both technical and artistic abilities. Dispatch is the command center of the company, often giving that caller the first impression of the company — either positive or negative. The cost of failing the customer is one that is too expensive for any towing company.
Towers, just so you know; I smile a lot because I really do get to tell you where to go!
