Girls Just Want to Have Fun

Here are some key factors women value in employers and workplaces taken from a survey of a few tow ladies:

• Work-life balance with flexible schedules, paid time off and comprehensive parental or family leave policies

  • Equal pay and benefits packages that include mental and physical health resources along with childcare support
  • Clear pathways for career advancement and leadership opportunities
  • An inclusive and supportive culture where ideas are respected, there’s a zero-tolerance policy on discrimination or harassment and to be able to feel a sense of belonging
  • Beyond a paycheck, women like jobs that offer a sense of purpose and to be recognized for their contributions
  • Have strong leadership that demonstrates empathy, promotes fairness and where women feel supported and motivated with a company where they can flourish

I think this response from a tow lady friend sums it up quite well:

I think women who are employed in the towing and recovery industry, want to feel equal to their male co-workers while also feeling valued by the upper management. … the sense of belonging as well. It’s important for the employer to understand the work /home life balance, while it should not always mean the employer has to “bend” to meet or help the employee a little grace from time to time I do feel is helpful for some situations. I mean let’s be real, us women hold the home and office life together and find an employer who not only understands that but sometimes can help with that, I feel is why I have had my dispatch team with me for 8 -10 years

And when the work day is done, singer Cyndi Lauper said it right in her song Girls Just Want to Have Fun:

That’s all they really want
Is some fun
When the workin’ day is done
Oh girls, they wanna have fun
