Connecticut Tow Operator Struck and Killed on I-91 Identified

The Connecticut tow operator who was struck and killed on Saturday, May 21, has been identified as Christopher M. Russell, 38, of Ellington.

At approximately 6:20 p.m., police say Russell was assisting a disabled vehicle in the right shoulder on I-91 North just before Exit 11 in North Haven when a  2015 Nissan Rogue driven by a Cromwell man hit him. The Nissan continued driving and eventually struck a median guardrail near Exit 14.

The driver of the Nissan was unconscious after the crash and was taken to a medical center, police said.

Russell was pronounced dead by ambulance company personnel.

The Connecticut State Police are investigating the incident, and request that anyone with information contact Connecticut State Police Troop I at 203-393-4200.
