Update: California Tow Operator Struck and Killed on New Year’s Eve

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the incident occurred at approximately 8 p.m. on southbound State Route 125 north of Jamacha Road.
The CHP responded to the scene reported as a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian.
The operator has been identified as Dale Alan Pumphery, 63, of El Cajon.
According to news reports, authorities say Pumphery was in the roadway removing a disabled vehicle when a Prius sedan struck him as he moved to the driver’s side of the tow truck.
The incident was not a hit-and-run, CHP says.
