Traffic incident management (TIM) stakeholders from across the country convened in October 2023, for the FHWA National Traffic Incident Management (TIM) Responder Leadership, Technology, and Training Symposium at the National Emergency Training Center (NETC) in Emmitsburg, MD.

Joanne Blyton, TRAA president, and Cynthia Martineau, TRAA executive director, represented the industry along with Emily Wade, executive director for the Towing & Recovery Association of Washington, and Karrie Fogg, president of the Towing & Recovery Professionals of North Carolina.

The symposium was an opportunity to share the latest in all things TIM including information on updates to the national TIM training program coming next year, and emerging technologies such as retro-reflective materials to better direct traffic flow, synchronized flares, debris removal systems, SMART lighting, and drones.

Joanne Blyton gave a presentation on the Power of Proclamations highlighting their use to gain exposure for FHWA’s annual Crash Responder Safety Week (CRSW) and Slow Down Move Over (SDMO) awareness.
