Texas Tow Operator Struck/Killed and Another Injured in I-20 Crash

A tow operator was killed and another injured on Wednesday, Feb. 7 in a multi-vehicle crash on I-20 in Ducanville, TX.

The incident occurred eastbound at approximately 1:00 p.m. near Cedar Ridge Drive.

According the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, the operators were on the right shoulder with tow trucks preparing to tow a vehicle when a FedEx truck with double trailers attempted to pass a vehicle in the right lane. The truck collided with the tow trucks and the vehicle.

The tow operators were pinned under wreckage, police said.

Operator Oscar Merchan Contreras, 44, was pronounced deceased at the scene, the other was flown to a hospital by a medical helicopter.

Investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors, and currently there are no charges pending.
