Disputes in our professional and personal lives are a regular occurrence. The challenge is to determine the best way to address these problems without spending exorbitant amounts of time, energy and money – and at the same time maintain sanity.

Everyone has their own definition of the costs of conflict – lost productivity, strained relationships, lost trust are but a few – and yet we seem to cling to old ways of solutions. Employees regularly file grievances; leaders threaten “to sue” one another or send “lawyer letters” back and forth; co-workers get at loggerheads; and we go to court, where the matter becomes public, stressful, expensive… and drags on.

Experience has shown that when disputes are resolved through a collaborative process, instead of either public [court] or private [arbitration] judicial processes, costs are reduced as much as 50-80 percent and relationships are preserved. Energy and resources are focused on settling the matter in a cost-effective manner that is confidential, meeting legal muster and is lasting.

Addressing this topic is an empowering seminar for men and women by the Women of the Towing and Recovery Association of America: “A Realistic Approach to Conflict Resolution in the Workplace and Beyond”. WTRAA offers this seminar as the second segment of their new Business Development Series.
