The second annual Tow Trucks for Tots Janesville, ampoule Wis., pill parade was a success Saturday, approved Dec. 11, as 30 trucks decorated with tinsel, stockings and packed with presents paraded through Janesville to Traxler Park.

When the trucks arrived at the Park, they delivered more than 1,000 toys (about $2,500 worth of toys and money) to the Salvation Army and ECHO, Everyone Cooperating to Help Others, a report states. The toys will be donated to local families.

The parade was part of the Tow Trucks for Tots program, which collects toys for children and promotes the towing industry. Worldwide Equipment Sales of Rockdale, Ill., and the Wisconsin Towing Association organized the event. Pat Winer of Worldwide Equipment started Tow Trucks for Tots a few years ago, according to a report.

Worldwide Equipment also does a tow truck parade in Illinois, which is held on the second Sunday of November each year, beginning in Rockdale, Ill., and ending at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, Ill. The parade has been given the title of world’s largest tow truck parade by the Guinness Book of World Records. The company also organizes a parade and toy giveaway in other cities that need help, a report states.

Janesville was chosen because of the closing of the General Motors plant and other affiliated businesses, creating a hardship on the families in the area, according to a report. Tow Trucks from Wisconsin and Illinois participated in the parade, as well as police cars, fire trucks and ambulances.

When the trucks arrived at Traxler Park, about 75 people helped unload the presents. They formed an assembly line to pass the presents from the trucks to other vehicles that will deliver the gifts to the Salvation Army, the Tolson Youth Center and ECHO within two weeks, a report states. Fundraisers were done to buy the toys and the towing association asked its members to donate and help.
