Washington Adds Teeth to Move Over Law

Dec 18th, 2010 | By | Category: National News

A new Washington state law takes effect that adds more teeth, drugs and tow truck operators, information pills to an earlier Move Over law from 2007.

Beginning Jan. 1, new provisions create emergency zones around officials and tow truck drivers who work along roads, a news report said.

Fines for violating the law will double for drivers who speed or fail to move over. The provisions also make driving that endangers emergency workers a gross-misdemeanor crime, and those violating the law could face possible jail time and a mandatory 60-day suspension of their driver’s license.

After January 1, an education period of 90 days will be in effect for drivers who violate the law and are pulled over by troopers, the report said.
