Van Wyk’s Breakdown Svc. Pty. Ltd. of Swaziland, Africa

Jan 11th, 2011 | By | Category: Truck of the Month

In recognition of Tow Times’ February International issue, we present this car carrier from Van Wyk’s Breakdown Svc. Pty. Ltd. in Lobamba, Swaziland, Africa. It’s a Mercedes-Benz Powerliner 1729 with EPS (Electronic Power Shift 16-speed ZF transmission). The deck was manufactured in Johannesburg, South Africa, by Recovery Manufacturers.

Owner Charles van Wyk says this is the company’s first truck that was purchased new, in 1999. Often in Swaziland, van Wyk says, towing and recovery is accomplished with homemade or older equipment. While the technology may not be the latest, he says, they get the job done.
