Uncle Joe

Jun 11th, 2013 | By | Category: Truck of the Month

“Uncle Joe” is a 1966 Mack R609 outfitted with a Holmes 750. It has a six-cylinder engine and a 10-speed Fuller transmission.

“This [truck] was the first of its size in Columbus, Ga.” writes Clifton Knotts of Knotts Towing & Recovery in Phenix City, Ala. “I was at my Uncle Joe’s tow lot when it was delivered in the early 70s. Uncle Joe used it for rotation with Columbus in 2002. I helped him paint and restore the interior of the Mack. Later I purchased it from him and I use it on rotation with Phenix City, and any calls I need. It gets the job done. Uncle Joe has since passed away, but in our hearts the Mack will always be known as Uncle Joe’s.”
