TTIRS is an acronym for the Towing Traffic Incident Reporting System, a national online voluntary reporting system for the towing industry. The TTIRS system allows the industry to report “struck by” and “near miss” events involving tow operator safety. Have you ever been on the side of the road and had to jump out of the way of an oncoming vehicle? That’s a near miss. Have you, your tow truck, or the vehicle you were attempting to tow been struck while on the roadside? That’s a struck by.

To obtain accurate towing industry information about the whos, whats, whens, wheres and whys of roadside safety, TTIRS needs your input to report every roadside near miss or struck by incident.  Your participation is crucial. It will provide our industry with the hard data needed to support Move Over law enforcement and help develop training to make our roadside work safer.

Use of TTIRS is free for tow companies and operators to report incidents. The goal is to collect and quantify data and make it available to member associations. Please report past and present near miss and struck by incidents by going to the TTIRS website at www.ttirs.com.

Too often I hear about a near miss or struck by involving a fellow tower, and I hear the question of why isn’t the Slow Down, Move Over law enforced. Let’s get the data out there so this problem can be taken seriously by the motoring public and law enforcement. Stay safe out there.
