Spring Cleaning

Geri RoskpfThe calendar says spring has sprung and yes, it is a bit warmer — plenty of blue skies and sunshine anyway — and I have to admit I do feel I have a little more “spring” to my step (must be because I’m getting a little more sunshine and vitamin D and not that extra cup of coffee, right?). It’s that time of year when you get the itch to get do some deep cleaning. Toss out or give away things you don’t need or want any more.

I had a salesman come into my office this week. He looked around and said, “Boy, it looks messy in here.” My first thought was, “What?” and then I thought, “With that statement, you’re not making any points for a sale here.”

But then I looked around and … man … he was right.

Yikes – it’s a mess. Boxes of bookwork, magazines and catalogs that haven’t been read, dust, an overflowing recyclable bin, etc. At least it’s not as bad as my husband’s office — one look and you back right out and close the door.

My employees must have the spring cleaning bug too, as the tow trucks are looking nice and clean, inside and out. But then again, it might be because they have a little more time to take care of those duties. I can only imagine the mud, salt and gunk that came off of the trucks as they were getting washed. Talk about dirty, and needing some deep cleaning.

And perhaps in keeping with the theme of Lent, this is a good time to clean out our minds and hearts of all the stuff that’s weighing us down. Do a little soul searching of where we are in our personal and business lives. Springtime is good for new beginnings, rebirth and renewal.

Unfortunately this time of year also brings a different kind of cleaning — cleaning of the checkbook — taxes are due by April 15th!
