Pennsylvania Towing Operator Struck by Vehicle as Driver Flees

Feb 19th, 2011 | By | Category: National News

An Ambridge, Pa., towing operator testified that a woman hit him with her vehicle as he attempted to tow her car from an apartment complex. According to a news report, James Whitman, a driver for Lowry’s Towing in Ambridge, said at a Feb. 17 preliminary hearing that he was called to the Regency Court apartments on the morning of Feb. 8 to tow a car. As he backed his tow truck to the vehicle, a woman who he identified as Sheila Bridges, 36, ran from the apartments, entered the vehicle and began to drive away, reports said.

The windshield was covered in snow, Whitman said, and the car’s front bumper struck his shin, and he was knocked backward. His back then struck the tow truck’s wheel-lift. He has experienced pain and numbness since the incident, he said.

Bridges, who was released on $2,500 unsecured bond, has been ordered to stand trial and is charged with causing an accident involving injury, simple assault, reckless endangerment and reckless driving.
