National Move Over Day: Saturday October 20

Oct 17th, 2018 | By | Category: Spotlight

National Move Over Day, the third Saturday each October, is Saturday, October 20. The day was established to create awareness of national move over laws that apply to emergency responders.

Towing operators, towing associations and state departments of transportation are encouraged to promote their state’s move over laws.

The Empire State Towing and Recovery Association (ESTRA) of New York issued the following press release on October 12:

“In an ongoing effort to spread awareness of the Move Over law, The Empire State Towing and Recovery Association and AAA Hudson Valley will host a public awareness event on National Move Over Day, Saturday, October 20, 2018, at the Taft Furniture parking lot, 1960 Central Avenue, Albany, NY, at 10 a.m., followed by a reception where attendees can interact with drivers and specialty vehicles. [The event will conclude] with a procession of first responders, tow trucks and maintenance vehicles that will travel throughout the Capital Region.

“The Move Over Law requires drivers to slow down and safely move over when approaching tow trucks, law enforcement vehicles, fire trucks, ambulances, construction and maintenance vehicles stopped along our roadways, yet statistics show the public lacks awareness of the law.

“To help promote roadside work safety, there is no charge for this event. Community members who attend will meet their local first responders — police, fire and EMS, towing companies, and representatives from various New York State agencies while getting a close-up view of the many vehicles that provide roadside services. Enjoy presenters, refreshments, promotions and a drawing while learning to keep our first responders and roadside workers safe.

Companies wishing to participate in this event can contact ESTRA at 1-888-853-7872.”
