Michigan Towing Operators Assist in Motorist’s Rescue

Jan 21st, 2011 | By | Category: National News

Michigan towing operators were part of the dramatic rescue of a man trapped in his vehicle underneath a semi trailer on Jan. 18. According to news reports, at approximately 6 a.m., a tractor and trailer hauling sugar rolled onto a car driven by Marc Keineth of Millington. Both the car and trailer went into a ditch, the rear of the trailer lying on its side on top of the car.

Keineth survived the crash and was reportedly able to send text messages while trapped in the vehicle. Mike’s Wrecker Service of Saginaw and Gray’s Towing Service, Inc. of Flint were dispatched to the accident and worked together during the rescue. Gray’s 60-ton Century lifted the rear of the trailer, and a 60-ton Century unit belonging to Mike’s Wrecker Service winched the car from underneath. Rescuers used a jaws of life tool to remove Keineth from the car. He was taken to a hospital and released with minor injuries.

Bill Giorgis of Mike’s Wrecker Service was the scene commander. Jim Gray of Gray’s Towing Service, Inc. said the rescue went smoothly, thanks to extensive crosstraining with the Clio Vienna Fire Department.

“It’s always good when everyone works together,” Gray said. “We’re blessed to have departments willing to train. It’s a great relationship.”
