The Lubbock, store Texas, drug City Council has approved a new towing ordinance that allows police to tow uninsured vehicles. The ordinance, approved on Thursday, Jan. 27, gives officers the option to tow vehicles if the driver has been pulled over for an offense and the vehicle is uninsured. Vehicle owners can retrieve their vehicles once towing fees are paid and proof of insurance is shown. According to a news report, the council hopes the ordinance will push Lubbock citizens to get required insurance for vehicle operation.

The Texas Department of Insurance says that in Lubbock County, one in four drivers does not have insurance.
