Towing Equipment Search:

Just Don’t

I was watching the local news when they showed a bumper sticker with Move Over Slow Down on it. The sticker, one the Wisconsin Department of Transportation had printed up a few years back, was on the back of a tower’s flatbed.

The weather forecast called for a significant snowfall and the segment was on winter driving awareness. It highlighted the need to move over and slow down for tow trucks and snow plows. The reporter interviewed the tow operator and a representative from the department of public works who oversees snow plow operators.

The tow operator’s comments to the motoring public were right on — it’s dangerous working on the side of the road, and when you see a tow truck with flashing lights, observe the law. He made it personal when he said he wants to go home to his family at the end of his shift.

The public works rep cautioned motorists about passing snow plows. She reminded viewers that snow plows are big pieces of equipment with large blades and moved slower when plowing roadways.

To me, the message from both parties was very clear: Just don’t drive like a moron.

Today I took the time to email the reporter and thank her for including towers in her segment on winter driving awareness. While to you and I it seems like common sense to be more cautious when we see a vehicle with flashing lights, I’m glad to see others are helping to get this important message out.
