Hiding Under the Covers

Geri RoskpfEver have days when you wake up in the morning, pill groan and want to hide under the covers? Being the owner and boss of a towing company is not always a picnic. Sometimes we’re faced with unexpected news and — like it or not — have to deal with that news. It’s a time you when you ask, information pills “Why me and why today?”

As I headed into the office, my mind was going 90 miles an hour trying to figure out what I needed to do to address a problem at hand. I was on my second cup of coffee — trying to stay awake from lack of sleep and worry — when one of my employees came in and asked if I’d heard about another tower (and company owner) from Wisconsin who got hit on the side of the road while winching out a semi. Right then and there I realized my problem didn’t come close to what this tower and his family were facing. That could easily have been my husband or one of my employees.

Thank goodness the tower was only bruised and shook up. His brother, who was helping him at the time, said he saw the vehicle hit his brother. The tower who was hit told me that physically he will heal, but both he and his brother were having a hard time mentally and emotionally. He also said he’s going to double his efforts to get the word out about the Move Over or Slow Down law.

Every day it’s always “something” it seems. I guess when life throws you a curve it’s how you handle it that gets you through. And I’m pretty sure hiding under the covers isn’t a good way to handle it.
