Mar 1st, 2011 | By | Category: National News

The Charlotte City Council unanimously approved a new towing ordinance Monday, ambulance February 28, doctor that will require companies to respond to customer phone calls 24 hours a day, according to a news report.

Councilman Patrick Cannon led the effort to crack down on predatory towing practices and to tighten Charlotte’s towing ordinance.

The new ordinance will also require clearer warning signs to be posted in parking lots, and tow truck drivers must now confirm with the police that a vehicle is not stolen or involved in a crime before towing it, the report states. And, if the car’s owner returns while the tow is in progress, the tow truck driver must release the vehicle free of charge.

The new rules take effect April 1, 2011.
